VW/Audi Water-cooled Show - Three Counties Showground, Malvern
Well, despite Steve Harrison going to the Bonnie Prince rather than McDonald’s on the M42… And despite Steve Harrison then driving straight past McDonald’s on the M42 while the rest of us were waiting unawares… And despite Steve Harrison taking a wrong turn and driving halfway around the midlands… We made it to the Three Counties Showground nestling at the foot of the picturesque Malvern Hills only twenty minutes late (and still minus Steve Harrison!
After gaining entry to the site we were soon driving into, and taking our positions, in Hall 3 alongside Rob Holt’s MkIII VR6 (who had accompanied his son Matt and the Club Merchandise stand at 06:30) and Darren Marshall’s MkI GTI. I waited until everyone had parked up and started polishing before getting everyone to move the cars into a more aesthetic arrangement! At this point Steve Harrison arrived…
The stand of preparation was second to none and it was really pleasing to see regional cars emerging from winter so well preserved and in most cases improved further. In particular the MkIV GTI Turbo of regional display ‘virgin’ Andy Cross looked stunning and gained the attention of the public throughout the day – well done!
Aside from the club displays and show and shine there was a whole host of traders to part us from our hard earned cash and sure enough throughout the day various bits and pieces were seen disappearing into the boots of our display cars.
The only disappointment was the steady trickle of visitors to what really should/deserves to be a very busy show.
However, we all enjoyed our day and the chance to show off our cars and hard work. Roll on the next chance at Stanford Hall on May the 1st!
