This was the first time I had personally been down to this show. I finally earn enough money to pay for the petrol to get down there. After a long slow drive down the M1 in the nice sunny weather. We were all in a good mood and then... it rained. It never stopped raining until Sunday morning. By the time we had put our tents up we were completely drenched. However we asked the security guard where the nearest pub was and we were delighted when he said "There's one on site chaps, just around the corner". We almost went into a good mood again until we realized that the so called pub was actually a barn with a few kegs in it. It's safe to say that it was colder inside the barn than outside in the rain. But hey, at least we had beer, lots of beer.
Anyway, on Saturday morning, after blagging a lift off a stranger because I couldn't drive, we finally got to the showground. Despite the rain, we had quite a good day, we saw quite a few people who we knew and some nice cars.
The drag strip was in full swing. If I'd have bet on the races I think id have come home with less than I started. There were some real surprises from some of the cars which looked very ordinary but were extraordinarily fast.
Most of the cars on show there were very well prepared, it took a lot of effort to get them the way they were as it was raining most of the time. Cars were being constantly washed and polished right up to judging time. It was nice to see a couple of people who I knew having a go at the completion, Matt Wegens mk3 looked excellent as always but there was some real tough competition on the day. Well done.
